#MoreThan - International Drug Users' Remembrance Day 2021

On July 21st, International Drug Users' Remembrance Day INPUD, GNP+ and UNAIDS will be running an online campaign called #MoreThan over social media. Throughout the day we will be posting photos and memories of the people and loved ones in our communities whose lives were unjustly cut short due to criminalisation, discrimination and stigmatisation. The campaign will highlight that we are all “More Than” a casualty of the drug war or any other label that denies our inherent humanity. We are all individuals with multiple identities, interests, passions and dreams.

To commemorate and honor the diversity of their lives, we will post photos of our loved ones on social media highlighting some of the many things that made them #MoreThan a casualty of the drug war. We encourage all who have someone they would like to remember to participate in the #MoreThan campaign. To do so, all you will need to do is post a photo of someone you would like to share over social media - Twitter, Facebook, Instagram - and include #MoreThan in the post, along with a short description of who the person was. You could include what they were passionate about, a dream they had, something kind people always said about them, anything positive that you feel like people should know about.

When sharing photos, we encourage everyone to take the time to edit them in Canva first so you can post with our official #MoreThan photo frame. To do so, just follow the below instructions. Or, you can watch a short video (in English) demonstrating how to do this.

  1. Go to https://www.canva.com/
  2. If you have a Canva account, sign-in; if you don’t sign-up for a free account
  3. Open a new tab,  and click on this link and then click “use template”
  4. You will see the first Example photo followed by our 3 template options in English, French, Spanish and Russian. Pick the one you like.
  5. Now upload your photo by clicking the upload button on the left menu
  6. Once it’s uploaded, click and drag the image into the white space of the template of your choice. It should fully cover the white area and appear as the first Example photo
  7. Now copy the text from the first Example photo into the template of your choice and paste it onto your photo. Modify and adjust the text accordingly. You can drag the text around and rotate the lines. Try to keep your text as brief as possible (1-5 words). Longer text should be included in the body of your social media message.
  8. When you’re done, click download in the top right corner and select only the template with your photo.
  9. On 21 July, post your photos on Instagram and Facebook using the following hashtags: #Morethan and tag us on:
    • IG: @inpud_official + @gnpplus
